Blair: Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. A young man must come to terms with the death of a close friend. Recommended especially for junior high school-age readers.
Kay: Gate of Darkness, Circle of Light by Tanya Huff. This is one of Huff's earliest, and one of her best. A 'simple' girl finds herself caught up in a battle between Light and Dark with the fate of the world resting in her hands.
Maggie: The Cat Who Came in from the Cold by Deric Longden. This hilarious memoir follows the conversion of a man from indifferent to cats to a man surrounded by felines, and loving every minute of it.
Jan: Joan of Arc by Pernold and Clin. This excellent biography draws on actual historical documents and confirmed sources to paint a vivid portrait of the life of Joan and the turbulent time she lived in.
